The Rio Grande Valley Music Festival is a non-profit organization and uses the proceeds from the annual Festival to support music education among young people in the Valley. $10,000 in donations have been approved for 2009.
The Valley Grande Academy of Weslaco received the donation of a bass clarinet from the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival. The much needed clarinet was obtained with the help of Jim Melhart of Melhart’s Music in McAllen and will replace an unserviceable instrument used by the Academy’s Marimba Band. Festival Trustee Eugene McKenzie, who arranged the donation, presents it to student band member Vasti Rosa Baez. Looking on are RGVMF Secretary Edy McKenzie, President George Rogers, Treasurer Anna Jenkins, Academy Principal Bernardo Samano, and Music Director Flora Trevino.
RGVMF Presidente George Rogers, the hombre with the sombrero, presents a $1,000 check to Homero Gutierrez, Director of the Edcouch-Elsa Jr. High School Mariachi Group. The money will help pay for travel to a National competition in Florida. Looking on with the Group and their instructors are Kathy Rogers, Secretary Edy McKenzie and Trustee Gene McKenzie.
The Rio Grande Valley Music Festival donated $500 dollars to buy guitars and supplies for music students at the Martinez Elementary School in Mission. George Rogers, Festival President, presents a check John Ecken, music instructor, as Jim Melhart, of the Melhart Music Center looks on. Mr. Melhart is a Festival sponsor and works with the Festival in providing the instruments.
$1000 check is being presented to the Edinburg Park and Recreation Folkloric Dance Team by the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival of 2009. This team has won several awards and they will be using this grant to finance the trip to go to Alberque, New Mexico for the nationals competition.
George Rogers, President of Rio Grande Valley Music Festival with his wife Kathy Rogers presented a $1,000.00 check to the Escobares Elementary School Music Department, Teacher Alan Mayne. The money will be used for the music program.
Economedes High School, Edinburg, Texas Folkloric group are presented with a $1,000.00 check from George Rogers, President of the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival,to further their music program.
Edcouch-Elsa High School, Edcouch, Texas: Mariachi is presented a $1,000.00 check from George Rogers, President of the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival while Kathy Rogers, Anna Jenkins,Treasurer, Edy McKenzie,Secretary and Gene McKenzie,Trustee,looks on. The money will be used to further the music program.

Alvarez Elementary ISD School, McAllen, Texas, Drumline was presented with a check for $500.00. Representing the Rio Grande Valley Music Festival were George Rogers, President, Kathy Rogers, Anna Jenkins, Treasurer,and Trustees, Gene McKenzie and Don Lorenzo. The money will be used to further their drumline program.
