 2010 Rio Grande Valley Music Festival Grants
 
The Rio Grande Valley Music Festival is a non-profit organization and uses the proceeds from the annual Festival to support music education among young people in the Valley. $13,000 in donations have been approved for 2010.

 


Grant of  $1,200.00 presented to the Alvarez Elementary School by Anna Jenkins, Gene McKenzie and Don Lorenzo 

     The grant of $1,200.00 was presented to Alvarez Elementary School on Tuesday 03-02-10.  This is the only known Drum Line, made up of 4th and 5th graders.  They had arranged to have the entire enrollment of students at the presentation, and presented three pieces for the presenters.  The students range from 4 years of age, thru the 5th grade.  They already have replacements for the 5th graders who will be leaving the Drum Line.  The Drum line students must maintain grade level to continue to participate.  Their instructor is to be commended, as well as those who have supported the Drum Line.
A grant of $3000.00 presented to Valley Grande Academy,

     A grant of $3000.00 was presented to the Valley Grande Acdemy on 03-01-10. The Academy will use the check for 2 new marimbas.

Our dancers range from 9 years old to 21 years old.In winning at the Viva Aztlan 2010 as "Best of the Festival" that has given us the opportunity to return next year and present a (2 hour) Viva Aztlan 2011 SHOW CASE.   Our next competitions are as follow:       "  Competencia del Mar " Corpus Cristi " April 24, 2010"
         National Folklorico Challenge, Las Vegas Nevada " August 2010 (Pending date)

A grant of $500.00 was presented to Guerra Elementary School 


   A grant of $500.00 was presented to the Guerra Elementary School from the 2010 R.G.V.M.F.

The Rio Grande Music Festival presented a donation of $1000 to the Mercedes HS Mighty Tigers Band which will help fund an upcoming trip by the band to Washington, DC.
Rio Grande Valley Music Festival President George Rogers presents a $1000 donation check to Band director Guy McKinney, and band members Miguel Marquez and Danielle Garcia.
The Rio Grande Valley Music Fetival presented $3000 to the McAllen ISD to purchase musical instruments for their bands.
 Rio Grande Valley Music Festival George Rogers and Trustee Gene McKenzie present a check of $3,000 to student James Cantu, Fine Arts Director Karen Herrera, De Leon HS Band Director Rommel Rodriguez, and student Alejandro Ruiz.  The De Leon HS Concert Band members behind them display their enthusiasm.
